What type are you?

So, what type of person are you when you’re at the gym?

Screamer. Not usually this hot.

Here‘s a great article at AskMen.com about the different types of people, or maybe I should say stereotypes. Either way, you will recognize most of these if you’ve ever been to a gym. Good read.

And so it begins.

Aaaaaand we’re off. A 90 day fitness challenge. Starting yesterday. And why not do it with the mother of all home workouts: P90X.

To be honest, I’ve done P90X before. And by ‘done’, I mean ‘quit after 6 weeks’. The X in the name does not stand for xylophone…It stands for extreme. (I know it starts with an e, whatever.)  And that is probably the most accurate description I’ve ever seen….of anything. Ever. P90X is tough as nails, and even for somebody who plays sports regularly like me, it’s a serious challenge. I get tired thinking about some of the moves they perform during P90X.  Well, more terrified than tired actually. But there’s no denying the results.

90 days worth of soreness.

I started this 90 day journey yesterday September 5th 2011, which means the last day of this challenge is December 4th 2011. Let the countdown begin. And speed up the countdown while we’re at it, because 90 days doesn’t sound like a lot, but working out 6 days a week takes a toll on the body. The first week of the program is generally referred to as ‘Hell Week’, because you and your ego (Most people think they’re in shape until they go through one workout) will go through a lot of physical pain. Pain in a good way, like sore muscles, maybe I should point that out. Not pain as in: My eyes are bleeding, it hurts.

180 days worth of soreness. And tanning.

I’ll keep updating this blog as I continue getting my ass whooped with these workouts. Along with my general thoughts about the P90X brand and the diet that comes along with it.
Three days of cardio and three days of resistance training per week. For 90 days. Wish me luck….while I wish for December 4th to come quick.

Crazy diet

‘I want to look like that guy’ was very interesting to say the least. It proves that an average Joe has what it takes to become a bodybuilder. The diet Stuart MacDonald used to become as lean as he was, didn’t seem healthy though. It seems like he barely eats enough calories to work out. He was exhausted the rest of the time.

The first phase of the workout was pure strength. I think I can use that in my own workout. One month of pure strength workout is always good. You get a good base and you can built on that. MacDonald didn’t use the strict diet in the first phase. I personally can’t go straight into a diet either. I like to ease into it. Taking out the ‘bars’ bit by bit.

No bodybuilding workout for me, I’m going to try Asylum to get in the best shape of my life. I’ve spent the summer building up pure strength and didn’t look into a diet too much. Starting this week I’ve been trying to cut back on snacks (the bad ones) and eat more in small portions. Plenty of chicken on my plate as well. I’ve been having a lingering calf muscle which makes it hard to start the Asylum program as it has plenty of jumping and leg workouts going on…

Hopefully the injury goes away soon so I can get started on my own personal workout. I’ll keep posting regularly when I get started.

‘I want to look like that guy’

Big told me about this documentary ‘I want to look like that guy’, so I checked it out. The documentary is about a man, Stuart MacDonald, who literally wanted to know what it took to look like a bodybuilder.

I’m only 20 minutes into the documentary and it’s really interesting to see how hard it actually is to look as lean and muscular as those bodybuilders. I’m a well-built 23-year old and I consider myself to be in shape. You can tell I work out but my six-pack is not fully visible and I’ve caught myself reading magazines on how to get those six-pack abs or how to get lean muscle fast.

Once I’ve seen the full documentary I’ll give my opinion on it. I’m going to take the interesting and useful pointers and try to set some goals for myself. I’ll try and achieve my goals with the necessary support from others who read this.

Hello world!

Hey,

I have no idea who you are, but then again, you don’t know me either right? I’m just a guy from Europe who needs to lose some weight, and I hope this blog will help me with that. Obviously, this blog isn’t going to do my pushups, or go for a morning run with me, but as far as accountability goes….It might help. It has to.

I feel you hairy monkey.

I’ve been overweight most of my adult life, and while I’me not morbidly obese, I could definitely stand to lose about 50 pounds. I’m 6’8″ (2.01m) so that might give you an idea…(It probably really doesn’t but I’ll post pictures later). If I lose weight. No…WHEN I lose weight. I’m sure you can’t wait for that glorious display of a male specimen. (Yes….sarcasm. Good job on picking that up.) To give you some sort of background information: I am used to playing sports (luckily). So I like to think of myself as an individual with average conditioning. (That makes me sound really boring….I’m not. ) I have that going for me, so I should be able to do some sort of exercise almost daily, which should speed up the process. I can only imagine how hard it would be to do this if I hadn’t done any sport for the last 10 years. Thank you basketball for keeping my weight under control!

I am doing this to keep myself accountable. I need to lose weight, and I WILL lose weight. The thing is: I need to keep going after I lose some pounds. And obviously, it’s so easy to just say you’re going to keep working out after you lose 20 pounds….but ….I won’t. So, that’s why you’re reading this awesomeness. So if anybody is reading this, and I’m not posting regularly, get on my case!!!!! (No stalking though…thanks.)

Expect the following: Posts on what I’m doing during workouts…healthy food options, my experiences during this journey, and pretty much anything related to losing weight and getting in better shape.

To start off, I’m going to follow the P90X program for the majority, but I will adjust it as I get bored easily.( Adjustin , as in: different workout, not chillaxing while watching TV)

Hope you enjoy it, and let me know what you think!!

Big.
